Starting November 1, 2007, the Green the Capitol Office is instituting a 90-day pilot car share program for House of Representatives Members and staff. The program encourages Hill staffers to use public transportation to commute to work, and the car share program for meetings and appointments off the Hill. There are no registration or membership fees, and vehicles will be available on campus.

Four hybrid cars are stationed in the Rayburn House Office Building garage and can be rented by the hour, gas and insurance included.
House of Representatives employees can sign up for the pilot program on Thursday, November 1, at lunchtime in the Rayburn and Longworth cafeterias. You will need to have your valid driver’s license, employee ID and a credit card to register.
The Green the Capitol Office will monitor usage of the cars and feedback from participants to decide whether to keep the program after the pilot period.
“We generated a great deal of interest in this program at our recent Green Transportation Expo,” says House Chief Administrative Officer Dan Beard. “This program will reduce energy consumption by encouraging House staff to leave their cars at home, giving them access to a car during the day only when they need it.”
