The League works to promote bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation through advocacy and education in order to build a bicycle-friendly America. They represent the interests of the nation's 57 million cyclists. With a current membership of 300,000 affiliated cyclists, including 40,000 individuals and 600 affiliated organizations, the League works to bring better bicycling to your community.

The Bicycle Friendly Communities Program encourages communities to provide better facilities for cyclists and publicly rewards them for doing so.

The League is the country’s leading bicycle education provider, offering materials and training courses to help people of all ages to feel more secure about getting on their bikes.

The League works with government at all levels (from city to federal) to help build a bicycle friendly America. In 2007, the House of Representatives passed a bill that included a Bicycle Commuter Tax, a credit that will be given to cyclists who ride to work. The League is working towards passage in the Senate.

The League is the main sponsor of National Bike Month and Bike to Work Week, encouraging hundreds of thousands of people to bike to work each May.
