John Heeb is set to receive the Knowledge Award for his work in CAO Advanced Business Solutions—and he has it—knowledge of both computer systems and human relationships.
Each pose their own distinct challenges, but Heeb manages to navigate both worlds with ease.
Take for example the guests he’s bringing to the May 9 ACE awards ceremony: he’s inviting the whole of the accounting department. “I’m building [Atlas] for them, so winning the award means that they’re happy.”
Building Atlas has been Heeb’s principle occupation for a year and a half. He’s worked in several capacities, but most recently has served as a liaison between future users of the finance and administration system and the consultants who have designed and configured the program.
“I really try to get at what both parties want. I ask the users, ‘What do you want the program to be able to do?’ And then I just listen,” he said.
The next big test for Atlas and for Heeb is the user acceptance testing that is set to take place shortly. The UAT will test different transactions and scenarios in anticipation of the program’s October launch.
Heeb is excited for Atlas’ next step and “thrilled” about receiving the Knowledge Award.
“It’s a big honor,” he said. “It’s nice to get that recognition.”
